“Camminavo per le strade di Montmartre. Un pomeriggio d’autunno.
Ricordo il vento, le nuvole alte e la luce bianca del cielo. Mi fermai in un piccolo caffe. Una porta vetrata, qualche tavolino e un silenzio ovattato.
Di fronte a me una ragazza seduta di spalle scriveva su un quaderno. Guardavo lei e quella sagoma in controluce e pensai ad André Breton, ad Aragon, a Eluard… al gesto di chissà quanti altri autori, scrittrici, artisti, tutti passati di lì, magari seduti a un tavolino, a prendere nota, ad ascoltare, nelle ore di veglia, la voce di Parigi, la voce delle idee. “Poésie, Liberté, Amour” diceva Breton. Forse quel giorno ho avuto anch’io il sogno dei surrealisti. Forse quel giorno il mio amore si è rivelato…”

“I was walking through the streets of Montmartre. An autumn afternoon. I remember the wind, the high clouds and the white light of the sky. I stopped at a small cafe. A glass door, a few tables and a muffled silence. In front of me a girl sitting with her back turned was writing in a notebook. I looked at her and that silhouette against the light and I thought of André Breton, of Aragon, of Eluard… of the gesture of who knows how many other authors, writers, artists, all passed by there, perhaps sitting at a table, taking notes, listening , in our waking hours, the voice of Paris, the voice of ideas. “Poésie, Liberté, Amour” said Breton. Maybe that day I too had the dream of the surrealists. Maybe that day my love was revealed…”
