An evening in memory of the great Sandy Denny will be held in Italy at the end of this month!
As the 80th anniversary of the birth approaches, an event to honor Sandy Denny will be held on October 30th at 9:00 PM in Novara, one of the major cities in Northern Italy. (THE LADY: Fabio Rossi and Maria Olivero pay tribute to Sandy Denny, the queen of folk rock.)
On the evening of the day before the Celtic New Year, the event will take place in the beautiful “Broletto of Novara”, a historic medieval architectural complex. A conversation featuring Fabio Rossi — author of the first Italian biography of Sandy Denny (Sandy Denny, la Regina del Folk Rock – Il Cuscino di Stelle, 2nd edition 2026) — and Maria Olivero, artist and composer known for her evocative style deeply rooted in Anglo-Saxon folk-rock. She has been interpreting Sandy Denny’s music for over twenty years and created Italy’s first reading-concert entirely dedicated to her (No End, Sandy – 2003).
Artist’s pictures, evocative locations, and fascinating details of Celtic tradition will be screened.
Fabio Rossi’s book will be available for purchase and signing by the author, who will bring along some special items gifted to him by Georgia Rose Lucas.
Maria Olivero will present a selection of Sandy Denny’s songs alongside some of her own compositions inspired by Denny’s poetic style.
Rossana Girotto will read selected translated excerpts.
The evening will also feature a slideshow of photographs of Novara City from the folk revival era, commemorating the city’s historic record stores and musical instrument stores, as well as the old local radio stations.
The guests for the evening will be music journalists Alfredo Marziano, who has covered many editions of the Cropredy Festival, and Carlo Bordone, both passionate connoisseurs of British folk rock.
A journey through time and music that speaks straight to the heart much like the famous song “Who Knows Where The Time Goes”.
Amidst the twilight hues of autumn, these ballads light up the evening!
we love the lady!
In the magic of Roma – Trastevere, I met Fabio Rossi, author of “Sandy Denny. La regina del folk rock”, the Italian biography of Sandy Denny, a precious work!
Sandy’s music has been with me for over twenty years.
My thanks to Fabio for sending me the second edition of his book. And thanks for including my memory and the poster for “No End, Sandy” the concert I put on in 2003 and probably the first in Italy entirely dedicated to her.
In late 2026, we’ll be coming together for a special event!
We love The Lady!
Maria xx
